Care Instructions for Ring Slings
How to Wash a Ring Sling
You're in the right place. Ring slings are easy to care for once you know the steps — here's everything you need to keep yours clean and in great condition.
Before First Use
Wash your ring sling before wearing it for the first time.
We recommend washing all ring slings before their first use. While some come ready-to-wear, you'll find that first carry much more enjoyable after a wash and dry. Washing helps set the weave of the fabric — especially important for airier weaves — and allows the sling to reach its true length. Ring slings are cut slightly longer to allow for shrinkage, so a pre-wash is part of the process!
Washing Instructions
Follow these steps to protect your rings and washing machine:
Detergent
Use a gentle, unscented liquid detergent with no optical brighteners. If the label doesn't specifically say "no optical brighteners" — it has them.
Nature Clean Liquid
Fragrance-free, plant-based, enzyme-free.
Seventh Generation Liquid
No dyes, fragrances, or optical brighteners.
ECOS Free & Clear
Plant-powered, hypoallergenic. US-based option.
Ecover
Plant-based and biodegradable. Gentle on fabrics.
Not sure about your detergent?
Use ½ cup of plain white vinegar instead. Add some to the main wash and some to the fabric softener compartment. It's a safe, effective alternative that also prevents detergent build-up.
What to Avoid
Do not use
- Fabric softener — coats fibres and reduces breathability
- Bleach or bleach-based products — damages fabric and can weaken fibres
- Detergents with optical brighteners or softening agents — breaks down fibres over time
